Clinical studies on AK-Medical products

Scientific basis of AK-Medical product development

AK-Medical's product formulations are based on nutritional science research, peer-reviewed publications, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Several of the formulations used have been investigated in national and international clinical trials.

The following summaries serve for scientific classification and do not constitute medical claims.

Phytochemical-rich plant complex + probiotic for prostate cancer

Thomas RJ, Kenfield SA, Williams M, Newton RU, Aldous J, Mitra A, Fazili Z.
Increasing Phytochemical-rich Foods and Lactobacillus Probiotics in Men with Low-risk Prostate Cancer – A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Trial.
European Urology Oncology. 2025.
DOI: 10.1016/j.euo.2025.10.003
PMID: 41152052

Study design

  • Double-blind
  • Randomized
  • Placebo-controlled
  • Men with histologically confirmed, low-risk prostate cancer
  • No androgen deprivation therapy

All participants received a plant complex rich in phytochemicals (according to the YourPhyto formulation). Additionally, they were randomly assigned to either a probiotic complex (according to YourGutPlus) or a placebo.

The study lasted 4 months.

Primary and secondary endpoints

  • PSA doubling time
  • MRI progress
  • Inflammatory markers
  • International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS)
  • Erectile function
  • Grip strength as a marker for functional resilience

Results

In the combined intervention arm (phytochemicals + probiotic), the following results were observed:

  • approximately 42–44% slower PSA progression
  • Stabilization or regression of the disease in the MRI scan in the majority of participants
  • 25% improvement in urological symptoms
  • 11% improvement in erectile function
  • Reduction of systemic inflammatory markers
  • Improved grip strength as a marker of physical resilience

The results were observed within the framework of the controlled study. Dietary supplements are not a substitute for medical therapy.

Scientific significance

This study is the world's first randomized double-blind study to investigate the combined effect of a phytochemical-rich plant complex with a Lactobacillus probiotic in the context of prostate cancer.

Scientific basis of YourPhyto

YourPhyto is based on a combination of:

  • pomegranate
  • broccoli
  • Green tea
  • turmeric
  • Cranberry
  • Organic ginger

These plants contain polyphenols, flavonoids, isothiocyanates and other secondary plant compounds.

In nutritional research, foods rich in phytochemicals are investigated in connection with:

  • oxidative stress
  • Inflammation regulation
  • Microbiome interaction
  • Cell protection mechanisms

Special feature of the wording:

  • Combination of whole plant concentrates and standardized extracts
  • Standardization of relevant phytochemicals
  • No phytoestrogen-containing ingredients
  • Manufactured under high quality standards

YourPhyto was used in the aforementioned randomized study.

Scientific basis of YourGutPlus

YourGutPlus includes:

  • Several Lactobacillus strains
  • Prebiotic inulin
  • 1000 IU Vitamin D3

Lactobacillus strains are investigated in numerous systematic reviews in connection with:

  • Intestinal barrier function
  • therapy-associated diarrhea
  • Inflammation regulation
  • Microbiome diversity

Probiotic Supplements on Oncology Patients' Treatment-Related Side Effects: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials.
Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2021.

Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system (approved health claim).

Polybalm – UK Polybalm Study

Thomas R, Williams M, Cauchi M et al.
A double-blind, randomized trial of a polyphenolic-rich nail bed balm for chemotherapy-induced onycholysis.
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. 2018;171:103–110.
DOI: 10.1007/s10549-018-4788-

Study design

  • Double-blind
  • Randomized
  • 60 oncology patients
  • Comparison of polyphenol-rich balm vs. control skincare

Results

  • Significant reduction in physical nail damage
  • Improvement of nail-related quality of life
  • Reduced Nail Psoriasis Severity Index (NAPSI) Score

The formulation contains vegetable oils and waxes with polyphenolic components, which are being studied in dermatological research in connection with antioxidant and inflammation-modulating properties.

Relevant product:

PhytoNightPlus – Sleep & Phytochemicals

PhytoNightPlus combines plant substances rich in phytochemicals such as:

  • chamomile
  • pomegranate
  • Resveratrol
  • Citrus bioflavonoids
  • turmeric

Scientific literature examines the relationships between:

  • Microbiome and sleep quality
  • Vitamin D status and sleep regulation
  • Phytochemicals and melatonin production

These findings form the scientific basis for the formulation.

Relevant product:

PhytoMineral – Micronutrients for increased stress

PhytoMineral contains essential minerals such as:

  • magnesium
  • zinc
  • selenium
  • copper
  • manganese
  • chrome
  • Vitamin D3

Minerals contribute to:

  • normal energy metabolism
  • Reduction of fatigue (Magnesium)
  • Protection of cells from oxidative stress (zinc, selenium)
  • normal function of the immune system (vitamin D)

Adequate micronutrient intake can be particularly important during periods of increased stress – including during or after medical therapy.

Relevant product:

Quality Standards & Ethics

The studies mentioned were:

  • published in a peer-reviewed format
  • Performed according to Good Clinical Practice
  • Approved by ethics committees
  • Partly initiated within the NHS environment

The formulations were produced under standardized quality requirements.

Scientific classification & limitations

Although the results of clinical trials are promising:

  • Dietary supplements are not medicines
  • They do not replace cancer therapy
  • Individual results may vary.
  • Further independent research is needed.

Summary

AK-Medical products are based on:

  • randomized double-blind studies
  • Nutritional science literature
  • Microbiome research
  • Phytochemical research
  • Micronutrient science

The aim is to provide evidence-informed supplementation as part of a balanced diet – not to replace medical treatments.
